Managing Schedules for Snapshots and Replicas

Schedules enable you to create a snapshot or replica of a volume or a volume collection at a specific time or on a regular basis (for example, hourly or daily).

Using a schedule can result in a large number of snapshots or replicas, so be sure that you have sufficient space. In addition, you can place a limit on the maximum number of snapshots or replicas created from a schedule. See Modifying Snapshot Settings for information on snapshot space. See Understanding Replication Space Requirements for information on replication space.

Notes: Be careful not to configure a snapshot or replication schedule on a volume that is also part of a collection with a schedule, as the schedules might interfere with each other.

If a volume is configured for manual transfer replication, do not create a schedule for the volume until the first replication completes.

To create a snapshot or replica schedule for an individual volume, click:

Volumes > volume_name > Create schedule

To create a snapshot or replica schedule for a volume collection, click:

Volume Collections > collection_name > Create schedule

The Create Schedule - Schedule Type dialog box appears (Figure 26: Create Schedule - Schedule Type ).

Specify the following information:

Figure 26: Create Schedule - Schedule Type

Click Next to display a dialog box that allows you to enter the parameters for the chosen type of schedule.

Depending on the type of schedule, parameters can include the following:

For example, if you select Run once, the Create Schedule - Run Once dialog box appears (Figure 27: Create Schedule - Run Once ). Note that the schedule dialog boxes shown below refer to setting up a snapshot schedule. Similar dialog boxes appear when setting up a replica schedule.

If you select Hourly schedule, the Create Schedule - Hourly Schedule dialog box appears (Figure 28: Create Schedule - Hourly Schedule ).

If you select Daily schedule, the Create Schedule - Daily Schedule dialog box appears (Figure 29: Create Schedule - Daily Schedule ).

After specifying the schedule parameters, click Next. The Create Snapshot Schedule - Summary dialog box appears (Figure 30: Create Schedule - Summary ).

If the schedule configuration is correct, click Finish to create the schedule. Click Back to make changes.

To display schedules for a specific volume, click:

Volumes > volume_name > Schedules tab

The Volume Schedules window appears (Figure 31: Volume Schedules ).

Figure 31: Volume Schedules

The Schedule Summary panel shows the status of the volume schedules and the creation time of the next scheduled snapshot or replica. A running schedule is a schedule that is set up to create snapshots or replicas.

In the Snapshot and Replication Schedules panel, select a schedule to display schedule details and relevant tasks in the Activities panel. Select Also display schedules for collections that include the volume to also display schedules for volume collections that include the volume.

To display the schedules for a volume collection, click:

Volume Collections > collection_name > Schedules tab

The Volume Collection Schedules window appears (Figure 32: Volume Collection Schedules ).

Figure 32: Volume Collection Schedules

Select a schedule to display schedule details and schedule-related tasks in the Activities panel.

To modify a schedule, select the schedule and click Modify. Dialog boxes appear (the same as when creating a schedule), enabling you to modify the schedule parameters.

Note: You cannot change the name of a schedule, whether the schedule is for snapshots or replicas, or the type of schedule (one time, daily, or weekly).

To disable a schedule, select the schedule and, in the Activities panel, click Disable schedule. To enable a schedule, select the schedule and click Enable schedule.

To delete a schedule, select the schedule and click Delete. Confirm that you want to delete the schedule.

Note: Deleting a schedule will not delete any snapshots or replicas created from the schedule.
